The Pan-African flag, also known as the UNIA flag or the Black Liberation flag, is a red, black, and green flag created in 1920 by Marcus Garvey and The Universal Negro Improvement Association (UNIA). It represents Pan-Africanism, a movement advocating for the unity and liberation of people of African descent.

Here's a breakdown of the colors and their meanings:

  • Red: Represents the blood that unites all people of African ancestry, shed for liberation from enslavement, colonialism, and systemic oppression.

  • Black: Represents the Black people, affirming their existence as a nation, although not a nation-state.

  • Green: Represents the abundant natural wealth of Africa.
